Thin Client & Virtualisation Integration Consultants
Open Integrations provides implementation and consultancy services to Australian businesses in all sectors. We specialise in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and thin client-based solutions because we believe it offers the following advantages for businesses over traditional desktop-based systems:
Ease of expansion
Have new staff starting? A thin client / vdi based approach means you can usually have it deployed within an hour. Have a remote warehouse? Your staff can login to their desktop from the remote warehouse.Keeps Data more secure
If one of your staff's hard drives dies, how much data will be lost? Are their emails and My Documents backed up? Even if they are, it typically takes a full day to rebuild a complete desktop with all the applications and settings your user had. In a thin client scenario, all data lives on the server. On the server we use Redundant Disk drives (raid) as well as keeping clones of the hard drives and/or snapshots. This combined with a good backup regime means your data, applications and settings are always safe.Staff can login (or not) from anywhere
Need someone to fill another's role temporarily? Need them to work in a different warehouse or work from home on maternity leave? Virtual Desktops give you the ability to work your staff to the bone*, wherever they may be.
*(of course, we're just kidding about working them to the bone)
Consume less power and less desk space
A typical desktop computer consumes between 50-100 watts each. Our thin clients typically consume around 17 watts and can be instantly switched off at night without losing sessions. There's no 'boot' in the morning, only a login, so staff aren't waiting for 3 minutes each morning waiting for their computer to boot. There's no noisy fans or hard drives on people's desktops to annoy them while they work. Our thin clients are the size of a book and make as little noise as one!Lower IT staff costs
Desktop-based hard drive and power supply failure as well as installing / configuring new applications in a typical desktop environment is generally a fulltime job for IT staff. In a thin client environment, an application is generally installed once and is 'published' to whichever staff need that particular application. The application doesn't need to be installed or packaged and deployed X number of times. This means your IT staff can work ON your IT needs rather than just being break and fix guys. Now if you want to engage us to take care of your networks we'd love to do that also but we also don't like traffic, hate polluting the earth and think callout costs are ridiculous. With thin client scenarios we can respond to the majority of your problems within minutes remotely. No need to wait for us to arrive and then pay us for a callout! We call that a win-win.We're techo's (with communication skills), not slick salespeople - so here's some honesty.
Of course, thin client computing doesn't suit all environments. Here's some scenarios where Thin Clients aren't typically a good fit.- 3D or Video Editing or need to watch a lot of movies
- Long compilation times - programmers who do long compiles on their desktops (though, you should be using a build server)
- and a few other scenarios
